Speaker: George Anderson
Topic: How to Protect the Nation’s Power Grids from EMPs
George Anderson is a Minnesota native and a graduate of Stanford University. While working at his family’s business, Crown Iron Works Co., as an engineer George became interested in the potential of Electro-Magnetic Pulses (EMPs), which can be caused by large solar coronal mass ejections (CME), and the potential for damage to our nation’s power infrastructure. In 2008 he formed the company Emprimus which does research and provides solutions for preventing damage from EMPs. He will talk about EMPs and what can be done to harden electrical and electronic systems from their harmful effects.

Each meeting features Board member introductions, general announcements, “Better Know a Constellation”, normally presented by a member, main speaker (around 45 minutes duration) and an after-meeting social gathering. Society business is occasionally transacted as needed.
NOTE: Meeting time and / or location sometimes change to take advantage of special program opportunities. Please check the MAS homepage at www.mnastro.org for the latest information regarding the meeting.
