Topic:  “A Chilean Astronomy Sampler”

Bill will cover several astronomy related topics from visits to two astronomical observatories: Observatorio Astronomico National de Chile and ESO’s La Silla Observatory. Chile has also encouraged development of several so called Tourist Observatories over the past 30 years. Observatorio Collowara, Cerro Mayu Observatory, Cerro Mamalluca Observatory, San Pedro de Atacama Celestial Explorations (aka SPACE). And finally, the main reason for this trip – the total solar eclipse that occurred on July 2nd, 2019.

Monthly meetings are open to all – you needn’t be an MAS member to attend. These meetings normally take place the first Thursday of each month at the Fairview Community Center in Roseville (“Great Room”). Monthly meetings start at 7:00 p.m. and last about two hours.

Each meeting features Board member introductions, general announcements, “Better Know a Constellation”, normally presented by a member, main speaker (around 45 minutes duration) and an after-meeting social gathering. Society business is occasionally transacted as needed.
