Monthly meeting

Monthly meetings are open to all – you needn’t be an MAS member to attend. These meetings normally take place the first Thursday of each month and will continue online during the pandemic. Monthly meetings start at 7:00 p.m. and last about two hours.

Each meeting features Board member introductions, general announcements, “Better Know a Constellation”, normally presented by a member, main speaker (around 45 minutes duration). Society business is occasionally transacted as needed.

Public Star Party at the MAS Eagle Lake Observatory.

The Eagle Lake Observatory consists of the Onan Observatory, the Sylvia A. Casby Observatory and the HotSpot Classroom.

Public nights at Eagle Lake are held about every other Saturday night from March till November. Annually, we also host all day events for Astronomy Day, Fall Astronomy Day and our annual Camping with the Stars event. Additionally, we may schedule a “special event” throughout the year for a rare astronomical event such as an eclipse, conjunction, transit or meteor shower.

Public star parties are open to all, but please review the Star Party Guidelines if you have not been to a public event before.

B-SIG star party will be on Friday August 28, weather permitting, at the Metcalf Nature Center. Saturday is the primary night for the event. Saturday is the backup night if Friday is forecast to be cloudy. Visit the MAS B-SIG discussion forum for additional information and schedule changes HERE
