DESCRIPTION:BSIG Beginner’s Special Interest Group Observing Session\nMAS Metcalf Observing Field \nThere is no charge to attend a beginner event\, and you do not need to be an MAS member to attend — everyone is welcome!! The purpose is to help beginners learn the night sky\, and how to set up and use a telescope. Volunteers from the MAS will be on hand to answer your questions. \nIf you have a telescope\, feel free to bring it. If you need help with learning how to set up and use it\, we are happy to help! \nIf you haven’t been to Metcalf Field\, it can be a little difficult to locate the entrance. So please arrive in daylight. \nThe BSIG Coordinator will make the final Go/No Go call on the evening of Thursday before the event\, based on the weather forecast. DESCRIPTION:Public Star Party at the MAS Eagle Lake Observatory. \nThe Eagle Lake Observatory consists of the Onan Observatory\, the Sylvia A. Casby Observatory and the HotSpot Classroom. \nPublic nights at Eagle Lake are held about every other Saturday night from March till November. Annually\, we also host all day events for Astronomy Day\, Fall Astronomy Day and our annual Camping with the Stars event. Must be present to win. \n8:30pm –  Raffle prize drawing in the HotSpot Classroom. \nThis year we have an 8″ Orion SkyQuest telescope to raffle\, along with astronomy binoculars\, MAS merchandise\, astronomy books\, etc. \n10:30pm – Ron Schmit – Laser show of the sky \nLive Laser Tour of the Night Sky – (Weather permitting) – Step out to the plaza and get a guided tour of the night sky. Ever wonder how to find the North Star? We’ll show you a neat little trick\, so you’ll find it every time. Want to find the planets in the sky? We’ve got a trick for that\, too! Watch in amazement as we turn the sky into a real live planetarium! If it’s cloudy\, we’ll simulate the sky with the digital projector inside the Hot Spot classroom. \n Sunday July 31 \nThe observatory opens at 8:00 am. for solar viewing and other daytime objects (if clear). \n8:00am – Continental Breakfast \nMorning coffee & donuts (Juice for the kids) – Celebrate the day of the Sun with views through the solar observing telescopes and binoculars. The observatory will be open throughout the morning and early afternoon. \n2:00pm Activities conclude
