SUMMARY:Monthly Meeting – MAS 50 Years Celebration - Featuring Dr. Kenneth Carpenter NASA
DESCRIPTION:The MAS will be hosting a hybrid in-person & ZOOM Monthly Meeting.\nFeatured Speaker: Dr. Kenneth Carpenter NASA Hubble Space Telescope Scientist   \nDr. Kenneth Carpenter is currently the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Operations Project Scientist and the Ground Systems Scientist for the Roman Space Telescope (RST) and is a member of the “Exoplanets and Stellar Astrophysics Laboratory” at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt\, MD. He enjoys photography and is an enthusiastic fan of exploration of the Universe in which we live\, the Maryland RenFest\, and all things Trek and Disney. Carpenter credits NASA’s early space program\, Star Trek and the 1964-’65 New York World’s Fair\, which he attended as a child\, with fueling his desire to work for NASA. He has been a speaker at various Star Trek and media cons\, including Denver StarFest\, Maryland’s Shore Leave\, and Atlanta’s DragonCon. \nBio – Kenneth G Carpenter (nasa.gov) \n Topic: Hubble Space Telescope: Highlights from 32 years of Observing the Universe \nNASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has explored our entire Universe from nearby objects in our Solar System to distant galaxies near the beginning of time for more than 3 decades now.  We will look back at some of its most important and beautiful results and images and how they have impacted us for so many years.  We will also note how Hubble and JWST are joining forces to further our explorations of our incredible Universe. \nCOVID PROTOCOL UPDATE:  Effective March 30\, 2022\, in accordance with CDC and the State of Minnesota policy\, the Minnesota Astronomical Society will begin a new mask policy. Masks are welcome\, but not required in all MAS buildings and observatories. This policy includes the Monthly Meeting at the Community Center. Reminder if you are feeling ill or have been around someone who has been ill\, PLEASE STAY HOME!! \nMeeting Location:AŊPÉTU TÉČA Education Center  (formerly the Fairview Community Center)1910 County Road B WestRoseville\, Minnesota 55113 \nThis meeting will also be held online using Zoom. If you would like to join us you will need use the following URL: \nZoom LINK \nYou can probably hear best with a headset but your computer’s speaker and microphone will also work. \nDial-in Phone Number \nMeeting ID: 849 8305 9268Passcode: 023546 \n+1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago) \nIn order to ensure the most success we are asking everyone to follow a couple of rules: \n1. Don’t turn on your camera – it sucks up bandwidth and we really don’t need to see you. \n2. Keep your microphone muted until you are prompted during a question and answer session during the presentation. This will cut down background noise substantially. \n3. You can request to ask a question in the chat area of the Meet and wait to be prompted by the moderator. \nWe hope you can join us.Clear skies! \nMark JobMAS President

SUMMARY:Public Star Party at Eagle Lake Observatory
DESCRIPTION:The Minnesota Astronomical Society (MAS) host Public Star Parties approximately every other Saturday night\, from March to November\, at the Eagle Lake Observatory. Public star parties are open to all\, you do not need to be a MAS member to attend. Typically there is no fee to attend a star party\, however donations are greatly appreciated. \nDuring a Public Star Party\, we use our array of telescope platforms to show you the wonders of the night sky. Our primary goal during a star party is to view stars\, star clusters\, galaxies\, nebula\, planets and maybe a comet or two\, all observable through our telescopes. There may also be a presentation or Q&A session at a public event. Public star parties typically run from 7:00-10:00 pm\, although we tend to stay later during the summer months as the summer sunset is later. Note that the Park is open daily from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. The main gate to the park entrance automatically closes at 10:00 pm\, so please plan to arrive before then. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Public Star Parties are typically all-weather events. Even if it’s cloudy someone will open the observatory for a tour\, give a presentation or answer any astronomy questions you may have. If this is your first star party\, or it’s been a while since you’ve been to one\, please review the Public Star Party Guidelines.  Note the complete list of public events at ELO. \nAnnually\, we also host all day events for the Spring and Fall Astronomy Day and the annual Camping with the Stars event.  Additionally\, we may schedule special events throughout the year for a unique astronomical happenings such as an eclipses\, planetary oppositions\, conjunctions or comets. \n*Other than our Camping with the Stars (CWTS) event\, registration is not required to attend an event. CWTS is also the only event there is a fee to attend\, as it is coordinated through the Baylor Park offices. Call the Baylor Park Office at 952-466-5255 for CWTS registration and camping information. \nAdditional information as well as directions can be found on the Eagle Lake Observatory web page. \nEagle Lake Observatory44.8103 -93.9397 \nMerle Hiltner onaninfo@mnastro.org \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n\n Fill in this form to make an inquiry about our Public Star Parties at ELO. \n\n\n\n Your name (required):\n \n\n Your email (required):\n \n\n Your phone:\n \n\n ELO Event date (required): \n\n Let us know if you have any questions or how we could help you!
