DESCRIPTION:The MAS will be hosting a hybrid in-person & ZOOM Monthly Meeting.\nFeatured Speaker: Dave Falkner – NASA Solar System Ambassador \nTopic: Voyager After 45 Years – The Interstellar Mission \nThese amazing spacecraft are still operational after 45 years. Dave will review some of the highlights from the Voyager Planetary Grand Tour\, then he will discuss the extended mission and the discoveries made about the structure of the heliosphere and the boundary with interstellar space\, and where the Voyagers are destined. \nCOVID PROTOCOL UPDATE:  Effective March 30\, 2022\, in accordance with CDC and the State of Minnesota policy\, the Minnesota Astronomical Society will begin a new mask policy. Masks are welcome\, but not required in all MAS buildings and observatories. This policy includes the Monthly Meeting at the Community Center. SUMMARY:Special Event at ELO - Mars Opposition
DESCRIPTION:Special Event public star party on December 3\, 2022 for the opposition of Mars. Event starts at 7:00 \nThis event will be CANCELLED if cloudy.\nMars comes to opposition\, a position directly opposite from the sun\, approximately every 26 months. This year Mars at its closest will have an angular size of over 17 arc seconds.  Mars will not be as close or appear as large to us again until May of 2031. \nJoin us on December 3rd to view Mars at its best! \nThe Minnesota Astronomical Society (MAS) host Public Star Parties approximately every other Saturday night\, from March to November\, at the Eagle Lake Observatory. Public star parties are open to all\, you do not need to be a MAS member to attend. Typically there is no fee to attend a star party\, however donations are greatly appreciated. \nDuring a Public Star Party\, we use our array of telescope platforms to show you the wonders of the night sky.  Note that the Park is open daily from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. The main gate to the park entrance automatically closes at 10:00 pm\, so please plan to arrive before then. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				This event will be CANCELLED if cloudy. If this is your first star party\, or it’s been a while since you’ve been to one\, please review the Public Star Party Guidelines.  Note the complete list of public events at ELO or download/print a schedule from the MAS Handouts archive. \nAnnually\, we also host all day events for the Spring and Fall Astronomy Day and the annual Camping with the Stars event.  Additionally\, we may schedule special events throughout the year for a unique astronomical happenings such as an eclipses\, planetary oppositions\, conjunctions or comets. \n*Other than our Camping with the Stars (CWTS) event\, registration is not required to attend an event. CWTS is also the only event there is a fee to attend\, as it is coordinated through the Baylor Park offices.
