SUMMARY:Mini Messier Marathon
DESCRIPTION:MESSIER MARATHON\nA Messier Marathon is an attempt to find as many Messier objects as possible during one night. The Messier catalogue was compiled by French astronomer Charles Messier during the late 18th century and consists of 110 relatively bright deep sky objects (galaxies\, nebulae\, and star clusters). \nThe first MAS Messier Marathon was held on March 13\, 1999 (Apr Gemini\, pg 4)\, and has been held annually at the Cherry Grove Observatory. The marathon is scheduled for the new moon weekend nearest the spring equinox with Friday being the primary night\, and Saturday being the backup night. \nAs with all Cherry Grove events\, the marathon is held only if the skies are clear and will be CANCELLED IF CLOUDY. See the MAS home page or Forum for the latest information regarding the star party status. \nFollow this Forum thread for the latest information.

SUMMARY:MAS LLCC Star Party Weekend
DESCRIPTION:MAS Star Party Member Weekend\nUnlike other MAS star party sites\, the nature of the relationship between the MAS and the LLCC requirements affects access by both members and the general public. Specifically: \n\nOther than the Northern Nights Star Fest\, Events held at LLCC are not open to the public. Only MAS members and their immediate family members are authorized to attend scheduled events.\nThe MAS does not call a star party “on” or “off” for any particular evening or weekend – it is up to the individual members to use the weather resources available and decide if it is worth making the trip.  Check the MAS Forum to see if others are going or not going \nThe site is not available for mid-week observing by members.\n\nCheck the MAS forum and state that you intend to go to LLCC for the designated weekend \nLLCC star parties may be available for Friday and Saturday evenings\, weather permitting. \nAdditional information on using the Long Lake Conservation Center\, including map and directions\,can be found on the LLCC page.

SUMMARY:CANCELLED - Beginner's Interest Group Observing Session at Metcalf Field
DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED\nBSIG Beginner’s Special Interest Group Observing Session\nMAS Metcalf Observing Field \nUnfortunately\, the weather forecasts have not improved for either tonight or Saturday night. \nSo we’re going to cancel this month’s MAS Beginner Group observing event.  \nWhile Saturday night looks like rain\, tonight was more borderline. It looks like clouds will start to increase right around sunset\, and that we may be clouded out completely by around 11pm. If sunset were two hours earlier\, we likely could have held the event tonight. \nThe next MAS Beginner Group observing session is scheduled for Saturday Sept. 10th\, back at Metcalf Field. \nWe look forward to seeing everybody then! \nBest\, \nSuresh \n  \nThere is no charge to attend a beginner event\, and you do not need to be an MAS member to attend — everyone is welcome!! The purpose is to help beginners learn the night sky\, and how to set up and use a telescope. Volunteers from the MAS will be on hand to answer your questions. \nIf you have a telescope\, feel free to bring it. If you need help with learning how to set up and use it\, we are happy to help! \nIf you haven’t been to Metcalf Field\, it can be a little difficult to locate the entrance. So please arrive in daylight. \nThe BSIG Coordinator will make the final Go/No Go call on the evening of Thursday before the event\, based on the weather forecast. If Friday is more favorable\, then the session may be moved to Friday.. \nPlease monitor the MAS BSIG Forum for latest updates. \nIf you’d like to volunteer to help out at this and future Beginner group events\, please let me know. \nIf you plan on attending – sign up right here to get email updates! \n\n\n \n\n\n\n Fill in this form to sign-up for BSIG events only. \n\nNote: Public Star Parties at ELO do not require sign-up. \n\n\n Your name (required):\n \n\n Your email (required):\n \n\n Your phone:\n \n\n BSIG Event date (required): \n\n Number people attending: \n\n Let us know if you have any questions or how we could help you!

SUMMARY:Virgo Venture
DESCRIPTION:VIRGO VENTURE\nThe MAS ”Virgo Venture” is an star party dedicated to observing many of the brighter galaxies in the Virgo Cluster. The Virgo Cluster is a cluster of galaxies in the constellation Virgo comprising approximately 1300 (and possibly up to 2000) member galaxies The cluster forms the heart of the larger Virgo Supercluster\, of which the Local Group is an outlying member. The first MAS Virgo Venture was held in 2002\, and has been held annually at the Cherry Grove Observatory. The Venture is scheduled for the new moon weekend\, usually one month after the Messier Marathon\, when Virgo is in a prime viewing position. As with the Marathon\, Friday is the primary night\, with Saturday being the backup night. \nAs with all Cherry Grove events\, the Virgo Venture is held only if the skies are clear and will be CANCELLED IF CLOUDY. See the MAS home page and the Virgo Venture Discussion on the forums for the latest information regarding the star party status.
