SUMMARY:MAS Monthly Meeting - Chuck Allen
DESCRIPTION:he MAS will be hosting a hybrid in-person & ZOOM Monthly Meeting.  MAS meetings are free and open to the public. JOIN US! \nFeatured Speaker: Chuck Allen (Astronomical League)\nTopic: Andromeda! \nChuck Allen will present our March program on the Andromeda Galaxy. The program covers Andromeda’s remarkable historical role in expanding our universe beyond the boundaries of the Milky Way and in unlocking the nature of the universe itself. Chuck will discuss a rather surprising February 2024 discovery regarding Andromeda’s mass and another discovery of the only planet ever detected in another galaxy. The program will also provide insight into Andromeda’s size\, structure\, black hole\, unusual globular clusters\,  principal satellite galaxies\, host of smaller companions\, key features\, true and apparent size\, and ultimate fate.  \nChuck Allen is current League Vice-President and a past League President (1998-2002). A League Lifetime Member\, he founded the National Young Astronomer Award in 1991\, received the G. R. Wright Award in 1998\, holds the League’s Master Outreach Award with over 500 programs to his credit\, and is a gold-level Master Observer. \nChuck served as Co-Chair of ALCon ’21 Virtual\, coordinates three League Observing Programs\, and is program director of the Evansville Astronomical Society. He is also a past judge for the Intel (now Regeneron) International Science and Engineering Fair and served as a US Air Force officer before entering the practice of law. \nCOVID-19 PROTOCOL:  Masks are welcome\, but not required at the Monthly Meeting.  Reminder if you are feeling ill or have been around someone who has been ill\, PLEASE STAY HOME!! \nMeeting Location:AŊPÉTU TÉČA Education Center (formerly the Fairview Community Center)1910 County Road B WestRoseville\, Minnesota 55113 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The hybrid meetings will be recorded on ZOOM\, and post-edited for publication after a few days on the MAS YouTube Channel. \nThis meeting will be held online using Zoom using the following URL: Zoom LINK  \nYou can probably hear best with a headset but your computer’s speaker and microphone will also work. \nDialing-in with a phone: \n\nMeeting ID:  813 6447 5719\nPasscode: 105590\nNumber: +1 312 626 6799 US (Chicago)\n\nIn order to ensure the most success we are asking everyone to follow a couple of rules: \n\nDon’t turn on your camera – it sucks up bandwidth and we really don’t need to see you.\nKeep your microphone muted until you are prompted during a question and answer session during the presentation. SUMMARY:LLCC-MAS Observing Weekend
DESCRIPTION:MAS Star Party Member Weekend\nUnlike other MAS star party sites\, the nature of the relationship between the MAS and the LLCC requirements affects access by both members and the general public. Specifically: \n\nOther than the Northern Nights Star Fest\, Events held at LLCC are not open to the public. Only MAS members and their immediate family members are authorized to attend scheduled events.\nThe MAS does not call a star party “on” or “off” for any particular evening or weekend – it is up to the individual members to use the weather resources available and decide if it is worth making the trip.  Check the MAS Forum to see if others are going or not going\nThe site is not available for mid-week observing by members.\n\nCheck the MAS forum – ‘Long Lake Conservation Discussions’ topic and state that you intend to go to LLCC for the designated weekend.  The LLCC committee will notify LLCC management of member intentions and designate bunk rooms available for use (typically in the Marcum House). \nLLCC star parties may be available for Friday and Saturday evenings\, weather permitting. \nAdditional information on using the Long Lake Conservation Center\, including map and directions\, can be found on the LLCC page.

SUMMARY:Public Star Party at Eagle Lake Observatory
DESCRIPTION:Get ready for the upcoming eclipse with NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassadors Laura Hammerbeck and Tim Carlson. We will be previewing eclipse day with an overview of what to expect and when\, how to safely watch the eclipse\, and even look off-planet at other eclipses in our solar system. It’s going to be sun-sational! \nThe Minnesota Astronomical Society (MAS) host Public Star Parties approximately every other Saturday night\, from March to November\, at the Eagle Lake Observatory. Public star parties are open to all\, you do not need to be a MAS member to attend. Typically there is no fee to attend a star party\, however donations are greatly appreciated. \nDuring a Public Star Party\, we use our array of telescope platforms to show you the wonders of the night sky. Our primary goal during a star party is to view stars\, star clusters\, galaxies\, nebula\, planets and maybe a comet or two\, all observable through our telescopes. There may also be a presentation or Q&A session at a public event. Public star parties typically run from 7:00-10:00 pm\, although we tend to stay later during the summer months as the summer sunset is later. Note that the Park is open daily from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. The main gate to the park entrance automatically closes at 10:00 pm\, so please plan to arrive before then. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Public Star Parties are typically all-weather events. Even if it’s cloudy someone will open the observatory for a tour\, give a presentation or answer any astronomy questions you may have. If this is your first star party\, or it’s been a while since you’ve been to one\, please review the Public Star Party Guidelines. \nAnnually\, we also host all day events for the Spring and Fall Astronomy Day and the annual Camping with the Stars event.  Additionally\, we may schedule special events throughout the year for a unique astronomical happenings such as an eclipses\, planetary oppositions\, conjunctions or comets. \n*Other than our Camping with the Stars (CWTS) event\, registration is not required to attend an event. CWTS is also the only event there is a fee to attend\, as it is coordinated through the Baylor Park offices. Call the Baylor Park Office at 952-466-5255 for CWTS registration and camping information. \nAdditional information as well as directions can be found on the Eagle Lake Observatory web page. \nEagle Lake Observatory         onaninfo@mnastro.org\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n\n\n\n Fill in this form to make an inquiry about our Public Star Parties at ELO. \n\n\n\n Your name (required):\n \n\n Your email (required):\n \n\n Your phone:\n \n\n ELO Event date (required): \n\n Let us know if you have any questions or how we could help you!
