The Messier catalogue was compiled by French astronomer Charles Messier during the late 18th century and consists of 110 relatively bright deep sky objects (galaxies\, nebulae\, and star clusters). \nThe first MAS Messier Marathon was held on March 13\, 1999 (Apr Gemini\, pg 4)\, and has been held annually at the Cherry Grove Observatory. The marathon is scheduled for the new moon weekend nearest the spring equinox with Saturday being the primary night\, and Friday being the backup night. \nAs with all Cherry Grove events\, the marathon is held only if the skies are clear and will be CANCELLED IF CLOUDY. The Messier catalogue was compiled by French astronomer Charles Messier during the late 18th century and consists of 110 relatively bright deep sky objects (galaxies\, nebulae\, and star clusters). \nThe first MAS Messier Marathon was held on March 13\, 1999 (Apr Gemini\, pg 4)\, and has been held annually at the Cherry Grove Observatory. Seen first are neighborhood stars and exoplanets\, the Pleaides Moving Group responsible for our Local Bubble\, the Radcliffe Wave\, the Orion Spur to which many popular nebulae and clusters belong\, recent supernovae\, and finally the core of the galaxy\, SgrA*\, and its S-star neighbors. After a review of galactic structure\, we look at the galaxy’s Fermi Bubbles\, globular clusters\, stellar streams\, and integrated flux nebulae\, and\, just beyond\, the Milky Way’s 71 companion galaxies and Local Group neighbors\, one of which shares with us an intimate past and a future fate. \nBio:  Chuck Allen is president of the Astronomical League. He holds gold level Master Observer status with 45 observing programs completed\, founded the National Young Astronomer Award in 1993\, and received the League’s G. R. Wright Award for service in 1998. He has given more than 570 lectures and programs on astronomy and makes regular appearances in Explore Scientific global star party and League Live broadcasts. He also co-chaired ALCon ’21 Virtual. Chuck is past president of the Louisville Astronomical Society and program director of the Evansville Astronomical Society. Doug Berger\, then president of the Astronomical Association of Northern California\, decided that rather than try to entice people to travel long distances to visit observatory open houses\, they would set up telescopes closer to where the people were – busy locations – urban locations like street corners\, shopping malls\, parks\, etc.His strategy paid off. Not only did Astronomy Day go over with a bang\, not only did the public find out about the astronomy club\, they found out about future observatory open houses. Doug Berger\, then president of the Astronomical Association of Northern California\, decided that rather than try to entice people to travel long distances to visit observatory open houses\, they would set up telescopes closer to where the people were – busy locations – urban locations like street corners\, shopping malls\, parks\, etc.\nHis strategy paid off.
