BSIG Winter Zoom Presentation – Globular Clusters: Why They Are So Cool!

December 7 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm CST

Free

The MAS invites everyone to the virtual Beginner’s Group Presentation using ZOOM..

Featured Speaker:   Claire Weaverling
Topic: Globular Clusters: Why They Are So Cool!

Synopsis:  December isn’t exactly globular season. Yet winter is the perfect time to plan ahead on your observing projects. Hunting globulars can be a challenging but satisfying experience, with plenty of targets for beginners. If you imagine all globular clusters look alike – think again. There is visual variety to be found. And scientific surveys of globular clusters have revealed fascinating insights into the history and composition of these gems of our night sky!

Claire is one of the most prolific visual observers in the MAS. She started with the Cedar Rapids Astronomy Club many years ago, a club her father co-founded. These days you can usually find her at Cherry Grove Observatory with her 18″ Dobsonian telescope, working diligently on an Astronomical League observing program. Previously, she conducted an excellent presentation for our Beginner Group on Winter Constellations.  You can find a link to that talk here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7Kd6o06txM

In order to ensure the most success we are asking everyone to follow a couple of rules:

1. Don’t turn on your camera – it sucks up bandwidth and we really don’t need to see you.
2. Keep your microphone muted until you are prompted during a question and answer session during the presentation. This will cut down background noise substantially.
3. You can request to ask a question in the chat area in Zoom and wait to be prompted by the moderator.

We hope you can join us.
Clear skies!
