MAS Happenings – January 13 2026

Happenings this Week

Lo, as I chart my observing season for the year of our Sun 2026, the cosmos doth reveal its cruel jest: thirteen full moons, with the month of May so greedy as to claim two.

Behold, their lamentable roll call below – named not by poets or ancient farmers, but by the emotions they stir within the long-suffering keepers of glass and mirror:

January 3 – Pesky Moon (Supermoon)
February 1 – Irksome Moon
March 3 – Grievously Inconvenient Moon
April 1 – Tiresome Moon
May 1 – Exasperating Moon
May 31 – Extra Annoying Moon
June 29 – Infuriating Moon
July 29 – Confounding Moon
August 28 – Vexatious Moon
September 26 – Bothersome Moon
October 26 – Maddening Moon
November 24 – Pestiferous Moon (Supermoon)
December 23 – Utterly Galling Moon (Supermoon)

Tis the slow time. Yet hark! Below are thine astronomical pursuits fit for this cold and hushed season of the year…

Become a MAS Presenter!

We would like to enhance our monthly meetings and encourage our members to share your work and passion. Put together a 10–15-minute presentation about the astronomy topic that interests you (and quite probably the rest of the MAS).

Topics include – but are not limited to:

* Observing campaigns

* Astronomical objects

* History topics

* Adventures to dark skies and astronomical sites around the world

* ATM projects – show & tell

* Restoration projects

* Outreach projects

* Observing or Imaging techniques

* Research topics

* Software and telescope how-tos

* Manned or robotic space missions

* And even ‘Better Know a Constellation’!

The presentation is best done live at the meeting but can be done through Zoom if you are joining remotely. If you have something to share, please send an email to the Programs Coordinator Ahmed Reda at programs@mnastro.org
