Events

MAS Events – To the uninformed, astronomy might be dismissed as simply ”looking through a telescope at the stars”. Amateur astronomers know that nothing could be further from the truth. There are more avenues astronomical exploration and participation than can be enjoyed in a lifetime! The diversity of MAS-sponsored events is testament to this variety. There is literally something for everyone whether novices considering their first telescope purchase or advanced amateurs pursuing scientific research purely for the joy of discovery and contribution.

Star Party_1747

Star Parties
Public Star Parties at the Eagle Lake Observatory are “all weather” events (unless otherwise noted), that is, they are held whether it is clear or cloudy, with the possible exception for hazardous weather conditions** (see below). Even if it is cloudy, someone will be there to show a video, give a presentation, give a tour of the observatory or answer any astronomy questions you may have.
Public Star Parties usually begin at 7 pm (unless otherwise noted) and last until 10 pm or possibly later.

There is no charge to attend a public star party, however, Baylor Park will charge $5 for daily parking. If you have a Carver County Park sticker, this fee is of course waived. To help us maintain the observatory, purchase door prizes and to pay the bills, donations to the MAS are also welcome.

**There may be a need to cancel due to hazardous weather conditions such as severe thunderstorm, tornados and/or snow storms. If any of these conditions are threatening, please call the MAS info line at 952-467-2426, after 4:00 pm the day of the event for cancellation notices.
